PLEASE NOTE:  Change Workshop button to Field Trips.

NOTE:  TAKING SUGGESTIONS FOR FIELD TRIPS IN 2012.  PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS YEAR.

ACMC schedules field trips throughout the year.  It's a lot of fun.  Plus, we get to visit other maritime activities throughout Puget Sound.  This year, we have trips planned for Camino Island, Bellingham, Seattle, Port Haddock, and Port Townsend.  For more information, carpool, etc., contact Lyndon Greene - 299-9075.

FIRST FIELD TRIP OF THE NEW YEAR - SATURDAY, MARCH 31, 2012

CWB Cama Beach & Cobweb Saturday -  Once again, ACMC volunteers return to Cama Beach to help CWB Director Andrew Washburn & CWB members get their wonderful facility ready for the summer crowds.  Here is your opportunity to visit the growing CWB - Cama Beach facility & also due something useful.  If you like, CWB also makes available a old resort cabin to stay in overnight.  It's FREE!  To show their appreciation, the CWB - Cama Beach folks host a wonderful pot luck dinner & provide entertainment in the evening.  Last year, ACMC stayed in the main boathouse & hosted a cheerful pre-dinner gathering.  Let's do it again.

Car pool to Camino Island.  Also, people may want to take their own cars especially if you plan to stay overnight.  Discovery Pass required.  Leave Anacortes 8:00 am.  Return to Anacortes 8 pm.  If planning to stay overnight, it is necessary to get your request in ASAP to reserve a cabin.  Note - Limited number of carbins are available.

FAVORITE TRIP - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH:

Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival - It's the largest & best gathering of wooden boats on the West Coast -- such is the Wooden Boat Festival at Port Townsend.  It is a three-day event.  ACMC members have been know to camp-out and attend all three days.  Watch the Sunday sail-by from Sirens -- begins 3:00 p.m., but you need to get there early!

There is plenty to see at the festival beginning with the hundreds of beautiful boats docked at Port Hudson.  Vender booths, music, food fair, etc., are on the downtown site.  If you like workshops, this is the place.  There are workshops scheduled all three days -- from taking a trip to Alaska on the Inside Passage, boat building, varnishing, sailmaking, maintenance & repair, to trips you can take in a small boat.  Meet the owners of these beautful boats, the boat designers, professional boat builders, and the amateur backyard boat builder.  If you really want to take-in the many activities at the festival, ACMC members are encouraged to go all three days especially Friday since this is the best opportunity to visit the boats & talk with the many vendors.

Carpool to Keystone Ferry.  Leave Anacortes 8:30 am.  Return 6:30 pm.  One-day pass is $15.  Three day pass is $25.

LAST FIELD TRIP OF THE YEAR - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6TH, 2012:

ATTENTION:  TSCA MAY CHANGE THE MESSABOUT DATE FROM OCTOBER 6TH TO OCTOBER 13TH TO AVOID THE FESTIVAL.  IF SO, TO BAD.   WE'LL JUST HAVE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS...IT'S A LONG WAY OFF UNTIL NEXT OCTOBER.!

TSCA MESSABOUT & KINETIC SCULPTURE RACE AT PORT TOWNSEND - This is something new.  I did it this past October & really had a good time.  The Traditional Small Craft Association or TSCA host a Messabout at Fort Worden.  Public invited.  They rent the beach house ALL Day which provides a great place to hold a pot luck, a great place to stay warm, and a great big bondfire in the evening.  A boat ramp is nearby if you want to launch for a little rowing & sailing; and, of course, the Port Townsend people have some beautiful small boats on site.

If you want a break from the water, visit the Kinetic Schulpture Race in downtown Port Townsend.  On Saturday, they have the parade & water float test - which can be hilarious!  The actual race & mud bit is scheduled for Sunday.  If you stay overnight, RV & tent camping is available at Port Hudson & Fort Worden  but you need to make your reservations early.
