Understanding & Maintaining Marine Diesel Engines Sponsored by North Harbor Diesel with Shimon Mor, NHD Mechanic & ABYC Certified Electrician.  This class covers what is necessary to maintain your diesel systems from routine and preventive maintenance, fuel & electrical systems, cooling systems, bonding as well as trouble-shooting engine problems.  Six sessions each Wednesday beginning April 2nd from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  Minimum 6 students.  Class size is limited.  Two lab sessions.  Cost $135. 

 

Navigation Art & Science  – Sponsored by the Anacortes Marine Electronics (AME) Instructor is Roger Born, ASA Certified Navigation Instructor.  Boaters are familiar with GPS, chart plotters, and radar, this course covers the navigation principles behind this technology.  The student will leave the class with a better understanding of what the technology is doing for them, which electronics is best suited for their needs, and what to do if it fails.   Six Thursday sessions beginning April 3rd 6:00 pm to 9:00  pm. NOAA Chart #1 and Chart #18421 required.  Minimum 6 students.  Cost $125

 

Introduction to Traditional Small Wooden Boat & How To Build Them -   Sponsored by Emerald Marine Carpentry.  If you want to learn about a traditional small wooden boat or how to build them, this is your opportunity!   Starting with a visit to Emerald Marine Carpentry and ending with a field trip to the Port Townsend School of Wooden Boats, with some rowing & buildings in between, this four session class is FUN.   Beginning Friday afternoon April 4  followed by two Saturday sessions  - April 12 and 19.   9:00 am to Noon.  Cost $65

 

Renovation of a Traditional Wooden SkiffSponsored by Emerald Marine Carpentry.  Andy Stewart, owner of Emerald Marine Carpentry, will lead this project.   A great hands-on experience.  Learn basic restoration skills & identify major problems.  Six sessions each Wednesday beginning  April 2nd.  Some Saturdays.  6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  Class limited to 6 students.  Cost $125.

 

Build a 14 ft. Rowing PEAPOD  - An ACMC “Back Yard” Boat Building Project.  We are building our second 14 ft., two-person rowing Pea pod.  Learn how to read plans, build a strong back, make molds, and set-up for building.  Learn how to work with epoxy safely.  Class will include scarfing plywood, beveling the laps, and fitting the plank to the boat. Six sessions on Tuesday beginning March 29 .  6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  Some Saturdays.  Class limited to 6 students.  Cost $85.

 

Basic 12 Volt Electricity & What You Need To Know About Your Boat  – Sponsored by West Marine.  Instructor is Lyndon Greene, ABYC Certified Electrician.  Electricity is a mystery to some, and it's scary to others.  Unfortunately, many boaters do not know how the electrical system works on their boat,  if it is adequate, necessary safety requirements, or routine and preventive maintenance. Four sessions beginning each Monday,  April 14.  Minimum 6 students.  6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  Cost $65.
