About Us

We started our maritime activity's three years ago. in June 2004 we filed our corporate papers with the State of Washington. In December 2005, we were officially designated by the IRS as a 501 © 3 non-profit corporation for the purpose of public education. We also received help from the Anacortes Parks Foundation (APF) who sponsored us our first year. And, we have not looked back since!

Garry Cline, the Director of the Anacortes Museum, who is still a board member, Jim Taylor, Captain of the Sophia Christina, Bob and Erica Pickett (former owners of the Flounder Bay Lumber Company, now retired; she currently serves on the City Council) Jean Bailey, local resident, and myself, Lyndon Greene, we made-up the initial officers and board members. Our current board members are Mike Lewis, Shelagh Considine, Pat Steffani, Dennis Mazza, Bob Pickett, Tony Bull, Garry Cline and of course, myself.

We believe a community maritime center is a NATURAL for Anacortes.

I hope you agree. Anacortes is a natural place for a community maritime center, especially because of our island location, local history, and the many, many people in Anacortes who are in some manner connected with the waters surrounding Anacortes --professionally or otherwise. But, bringing a community maritime center to Anacortes will not be easy. It will take some work (in fact, a lot of work) and the volunteer help of some wonderful people. And yes, it will take some luck, too. Anacortes is a busy place. It is also an expensive place -- and locating a center, increasing our membership, staffing, etc., these things will take time, energy, and money. But, with your help, we can make it happen!

Where are we located?

Right now, we are looking for a permanent site. If you can help us, please contact Tony Bull, phone number (360) 293-6122. We are looking for a small shop or heated space to rent where we can hold classes, complete several projects, and continue our boat building and other activities.
